Colon Hydrotherapy in Surrey

Everything you need to know about colonic irrigation at Cleanse Studio — what it is, what happens on the day, and how to prepare.

What is colon hydrotherapy?

Colon hydrotherapy — also called colonic irrigation or simply a colonic — is the gentle introduction of warm, filtered water into the large intestine to encourage the natural release of waste and trapped gas.

At Cleanse Studio we use a closed system. Water flows in and waste flows out through the same discreet, sealed line, so there is no odour and no mess at any point. Everything that touches you is sterile and single-use.

The pressure and temperature of the water are controlled and adjusted continuously throughout the session, and Rachel remains with you from beginning to end.

What to expect on the day

Arrival and consultation — around 20 minutes

We start with a confidential health questionnaire and a proper conversation about your digestion, your diet, any medication you take and what has brought you in. This is also where you ask anything at all — no question is too awkward. If anything you tell me means the treatment isn’t suitable, we stop there and I’ll explain why.

Getting settled — 5 minutes

You change in private and lie on the treatment couch. You remain covered with a gown and blanket throughout. A small, sterile, single-use tube is inserted just a couple of inches — most people find this far less uncomfortable than they’d imagined.

The treatment — around 40 minutes

Warm water flows in slowly, then releases, in gentle cycles. You’ll feel a mild sense of fullness followed by relief, a little like a wave. Some people find it deeply relaxing; others feel occasional brief cramping as the bowel works. You can ask to pause or stop at any moment. Rachel may also use light abdominal massage to help things along.

Afterwards — 10 to 15 minutes

You’ll have private use of the en-suite for as long as you need. We then sit down briefly to talk through how it went, aftercare, what to eat over the next day or two, and whether a follow-up session would be useful. Allow around 75 to 90 minutes for a first appointment.

Reported benefits

Clients commonly tell us they experience:

  • Relief from bloating and abdominal heaviness
  • A flatter, more comfortable feeling in the stomach
  • Improved regularity in the days following a session
  • Less trapped wind and associated discomfort
  • A feeling of lightness and increased energy
  • Renewed motivation to eat and drink more mindfully

These are the experiences our clients report and individual results vary. Colon hydrotherapy is a complementary therapy: it is not a treatment or cure for any medical condition, and it is not a substitute for advice from your GP. Please seek medical advice for persistent digestive symptoms.

How to prepare

  • Two to three days before: favour vegetables, fruit and whole foods. Ease off red meat, alcohol and heavily processed food if you can.
  • The day before: drink plenty of water and keep meals light.
  • Two hours before: avoid eating, and avoid fizzy drinks entirely.
  • On the day: wear loose, comfortable clothing.
  • Always: tell me about any medication, supplements or recent surgery when you book.

Aftercare

  • Drink water steadily for the rest of the day
  • Start with something light and warm — soup, steamed vegetables, broth
  • Skip alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours if you can
  • A probiotic can be helpful; I’ll advise on this individually
  • Bowel movements may be irregular for a day or two — this is normal

Who it isn’t suitable for

For your safety, colon hydrotherapy is not offered if any of the following apply. This list isn’t exhaustive — the consultation covers your individual circumstances in full.

  • Pregnancy
  • Active inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis during a flare
  • Diverticulitis (active), or severe diverticular disease
  • Bowel, rectal or abdominal surgery in the last six months
  • Severe haemorrhoids, anal fissures or rectal bleeding
  • Known or suspected bowel cancer or polyps
  • Serious heart, kidney or liver disease
  • Uncontrolled high blood pressure
  • Abdominal hernia
  • Recent heart attack or stroke

If you’re unsure, please get in touch before booking — or speak to your GP. I’d far rather have that conversation than take a booking that isn’t right for you.
